Winter at Wachusett: Planning Your Perfect Ski Day

Winter is the perfect time to visit Wachusett and enjoy the amenities of our cozy mountain resort. But you might be surprised at how much there is to do here other than skiing and snowboarding! With a little planning, you can set yourself up for a perfect day at Wachusett.

Early Morning – Rise and Shine!

If you’re the morning type, we suggest starting early to fit in as much as you can (though if you’re the “late morning is best morning” type, we certainly don’t blame you).

Get your gear packed up in the morning and head over to grab a good breakfast before you hit the mountain. Since you’re planning to ski/ride, you’ll need the energy—and our lodge Café Food Court serves up a fresh, hot breakfast until 10 a.m. every day. There’s also the Balance Rock Coffee Company nearby, the perfect place to get your caffeine fix before you head to the slopes.

Once you’re fueled up, you’ll be ready to meet your friends and family in one of our comfy lounge areas before heading out. Once you’re out on the slopes (either having fun on your own or taking one of our beginner instruction packages) you’ll be surprised at how the time flies!

Mid-Day Break – Catch Your Breath

If you’re a beginner, a few hours of skiing might be enough to wear you out, but whether you plan to call it a day or simply take a mid-day break to catch your breath, you’ll need some place to stop for lunch. And on a perfect ski day, we’d have to recommend the Coppertop Lounge, located in the base lodge.

Here, you can relax, grab a light lunch, and maybe even enjoy a beer before keeping on with the day’s activities. (Maybe we’re a little biased, but you can’t go wrong with a Coppertop bowl of chili or New England clam chowder on a cold day!)

Mid-day is also the perfect time to enjoy the other amenities and the natural splendor of the mountain resort. The Wachusett Trail Map charts out different locales and paths that you might be interested in.

Evening Activities – Grill and Chill

You might think that sunset means it’s time to pack up, but think again! Activities like our famous Night Race League are perfect for those who live by the mantra “the mountain never sleeps”! But even if you’re not ready to rock and roll in a league like this, feel free to keep skiing or snowboarding until the slopes close.

Once you pck it in for the day, it’s time to think about dinner—and with great options like the Black Diamond Restaurant and O’Brien’s Bar & Grill located nearby, you won’t have to think long! Grab a bite, a hot chocolate, or a glass of wine from the Coppertop Lounge T-Bar. After a busy day of fun and sun, you deserve it.

When all is said and done, we wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to stay a while longer—which is why we partner with several nearby lodging options to let you stay close to the action. We’ll see you there!
